st. andrews by-the-sea

I've been on vacation this week but as belts are being worn a bit tighter these days, I've been sticking close to home.  Lucky for me one of the most stunning little coastal towns is just a couple of hours away from Fredericton.  St. Andrews by-the-sea is a postcard perfect and never more so than yesterday with cloudless blue skies, sunshine and a refreshing breeze off the water.  My mom and I got an early start to head down and spend a few hours in this historic seaside resort town.

Our first stop, of course, was the Farmer's Market.  If there is a market I will find it.  St. Andrews' market runs on Thursdays throughout the summer from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Overlooking the harbour and in the heart of the central business district, it's a perfect way to start a morning of browsing.

After the market we wandered along Water Street and into the various boutiques and shops.  Since it's June the whole town seemed to be in bloom.

We'd worked up quite an appetite after a morning of window-shopping.  After delicious cups of fish chowder at Sweet Harvest Market, we stopped at Honeybeans for coffee and treats (we may not yet have come down from our sugar high!) before hitting the road and heading back to Fredericton.

This was a lovely day of browsing but I hope to be back to St. Andrews again before the summer is out - definitely want to visit Kingsbrae and the new aquarium at the Huntsman Marine Centre and everyone is telling me I have to eat at the Rossmount Inn.  Until we meet again, St. Andrews...

Definitely a favorite day trip for our family as well ( although I never knew about the Thursday market - thanks for the tip!). And yes, you absolutely need to check out the Rossmount - one of the top spots in NB!
